Helpdesk

Again and with the second strompi board I experience failures.

I had the RTCEMails script running so I got mail when there was a power failures.

I reboot my Raspberry at night through a crontab schedule so I should get a mail from the RTCEMail script that runs also from schedule.

I tried a manual run for the Status script which fails en when I try to run the RTCEMail script it also failes.

At last I dismounted the power from the strompi and the Raspberry went down.

So I have to dismount everything again to reset the strompi and check if its dead or runs again.

then this one should be return for replacement I assume.

I let my domotics check the temperature of the raspberry and it stays well below the 45 degrees, so it is not overheated.

Any suggestions?

Hello Bert,
The behavior can have various causes and is difficult to solve by remote diagnosis. Executing the scripts manually could fail because a script may still be running in Autostart which is blocking the serial interface!?
I would first recommend restarting the StromPi and possibly flashing the newest firmware on the StromPi again.

Dismounting the boards from the joy-it housing and dismount the battery and the jumper and mount the jumper again did result in functioning again. The script RTCEMailshutdown now send mails when disconnecting microUSB or when there is a raspberry reboot.

Big question is: ehy does the strompi gets in  this hangup situation? I use this board for continuity reasons but can not rely on it.

Is there a possible relation with scheduled booting the raspberry with a crontab schedule?

Hello Bert,
We are not aware of any connection between crontab schedules and a crash of the microcontroller.
It is sometimes due to the StromPi console not being closed correctly. In this case, it would help to open the StromPi console via minicom and then close it properly with the "quit" command.

At the moment I stopped all strompi related schedules, remomove the raspberry&strompi from the JoyIT case, did a proper reset (remove battery, remove&replace jumper) started up again. Starting up the GUi give an error. I can check status and disconnecting&reconnecting the power is succesfull. As long as I do not have to change the config it seemes to function. But without the RTCEMail-shutdown.py script running. I used it to check if the StromPi was ok by checking for the mail after every scheduled reboot. For now the strompi does not give me comfort.

Hello Bert,

it is a bit strange that the RTCEmail-shutdown script seems to work, but the config script does not. Are you sure that the RTCEmail-shutdown script was not restarted automatically after restarting your Raspberry? This would explain the behavior, as the script then blocks the serial interface. Otherwise, I would suggest trying the GUI StromPi configuration again with a fresh image in which only the most necessary configuration steps have been done. You can follow our quick start guide or use one of our prepared images for that.
